Analyzes were carried out on one of the biodegradability of articles that have obtained the EPD: ECORUB R0705. The result is very encouraging: the material is biodegradable almost 70%. And 'as further confirms once more the characteristics of eco-friendliness of the product family ECORUB.

Sovere’s firm belief in researching ecofriendly materials, has led to the development of a product with a minimum amount of petroleum in relation to the raw materials sourced from natural recyclable resources.

The result has been confirmed further to a precise analysis by Padua University, and involves a material that can be used in various sectors with different specific formulations for each application. However it maintains the properties of traditional products while taking an important step forwards towards exceptional environmental compatibility.

Making leverage on their thirty years of experience, Sovere has collaborated in fully testing product performance by producing expanded products for the footwear trade. The product is progressively being affirmed with excellent results in other fields as well, some even requiring compatibility for human use, which further confirms the goodness of the Sovere solutions.

EVONPLUS was presented at the Bologna trade fair last May by Silpa, exclusively for the footwear trade. The new EVONPLUS is a revolutionary material that guarantees even lighter weight, while maintaining the mechanical and physical properties of the excellent Rubflex.

A research conducted by Althesis has demonstrated the long-term benefits from using PVC in construction products, in terms of reduced costs and energy savings.

Attached relations of Eng. Baldo Studio LCE and Eng. Marco Piana on research and experimentation initiated by PVC Forum Italy, both through the activities of working groups organized by applications through projects that cross, and their contribution to improving the environmental sustainability of materials and applications.

Enclosed is the summary document which explains the objectives and actions in the program VinylPlus, where you can see the importance that the European supply chain gives the theme of recycling. All participants must attend to the achievement of 800,000 tonnes to be recycled by 2020, either by directly recycling and recovery activities, which give a contribution to the creation of recycling schemes.

Additionally, the use of PVC products allows a considerable saving of energy.

Finally, an important acknowledgment of PVC and its many applications, such as environmentally sustainable material. In fact it was published July 9, 2009 in the Official Gazette the European Commission Decision 2009/563/EC to update label on the shoes in which, unlike the previous one, has been recognized that even shoes can boast of using PVC "Flower "that the European Ecolabel. It is now possible for PVC footwear may request and obtain the European Ecolabel environmental quality.
The Decision of the Commission updates a previous decision by more than 5 years ago that, in a specific paragraph, prohibiting the presence of PVC in the shoes that they wanted to get the European Ecolabel and also could not be used even if the recycling PVC containing plasticizers of the usual 3 phthalate.
Today, as amended, this paragraph has been completely eliminated and therefore there is neither prohibition nor its use of PVC recycling. It 'was, however, added an additional paragraph that lists the substances that can not be used, among which were included in addition to DBP, BBP, DEHP and DINP, DIDP also.

As part of the European PVC production and transformation chain, and the PVC Forum Italy, the Compounds Group is working on the project for sustainable development through its participation in the Vinyl 2010 programme (www.vinyl2010.org). This involves improving the production processes and products, investing in technology, reducing emissions and waste to a minimum and giving drive to collecting and recycling the products at the end of their life. This integrated approach is expressed in the Voluntary PVC Industry Undertaking that was signed in 2000.

In fact, through the Voluntary Undertaking the European PVC industry has improved the competitiveness and performance of its products and helped create a new recycling industry in Europe.

In Italy, Vinyl 2010 encourages the technological and performance innovation skills of the sector, and its environmental commitment in its production and products, where PVC has become a constantly new product that is increasingly in line with the needs of our country and the rest of the world.

It is also important to emphasise the contribution that the PVC chain is giving:

• in obtaining high performance products at costs which are very accessible, even in times like the current recession,

• in reducing green house gas emissions,

• in using materials that are increasingly more compatible with the environment and health, some even being in the vanguard as regards the respect of the current and future REACH regulation requirements,

• to Made in Italy,

• to the home economy, with more than 1200 companies involved in the production and transformation chain (plus the various assemblers and distributors).

A contribution in terms of innovation and sustainability that the Italian PVC chain intends continuing in the new Vinyl Plus programme, the successor to Vinyl 2010, which will be officially presented next June.
